20-minute Indoor Walking Workout for Seniors, Beginner Exercisers

This 20-minute indoor walking workout will help improve your cardiovascular health by getting your heart rate up with exercises that work your entire body including your legs, glutes, core, and upper body. Perfect for seniors and beginner exercisers. There are about 2400 steps in this video.

Marching or walking in place is the foundation for this workout. Fun dance moves mix things up. These exercises will also work on your balance and coordination, which is important to prevent falls, the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among seniors.

  • It’s the first time I’ve come across this exercise video. I’m 73 and really enjoyed it. Thank you as it’s easier to reach my 10,000 steps a day now that I’ve done it! – Your Mum doing it with you is an encouragement for many older people!

  • Your mom ROCKS. Thank you so much for doing exercises for people like us. Also, thank you for including your mom. This shows that we can do this. Im so elated I found you.

    • My mom is definitely a rock star! Thank you for your kind words. We are so happy we can help you stay active and inspire you to keep moving. The feeling is mutual — we are elated you found us!

  • Dear Active Mom and Daughter, Thank you so much for your series of videos. A year ago, I could run, skip, dance like a kid, then I took a bad fall and broke my leg bones just above my ankle. I am 76 years old, and lost a lot of ground in muscle mass, strength, coordination, breathing capacity. I found your videos this week, and they are just perfect for where I am at. I can already tell that I am getting stronger and more coordinated. I love how you two interact. Great support for each other, lovely.

    • Hi Judy! We are so happy to hear we can help you regain your strength, agility, and coordination. You are exemplifying that is important to go slowly, listen to your body, and build strength and endurance gradually. Keep up the great work. Thank you for sharing and working out with us.

    • You can do it lovely!!!
I believe in you, and you inspire this young woman (me) to become an active elder one day!!
*Never give up, you are doing SO well, Judy!* 💃

    • @Rosie Brown Thank you so much, Rosie, for your kind, supportive message. These workouts geared to seniors are great. As I have gained strength, I have moved onto more challenging routines. It feels good to be stronger and more coordinated!

  • I started your 20-minute walk last week. So far, I only missed one day. I am 80 years old and was not brought up with exercise and I really genuinely dislike to work out. So I took what I thought would be the shortest and easiest workout to do. I still struggle to turn on my iPad in the morning but I am proud when I have done the 20 minutes, thanks to you. I will graduate to one of your other programs once I am fully competent with this one. Thanks again to you and your inspiring mom.

    • So sorry for the delay in replying. A big chunk of comments, including this one, were not in their usual place. Congratulations on making a commitment to exercise! We’re happy to be by your side to help you get stronger. You and my mom are in the 80-year-old club! We know you can build up your strength and graduate to our other programs. Thank you very much for spending time with us. We’re cheering you on!

    • I am 75 and like Suzanne – not brought up to exercise, and I, too, genuinely dislike working out. Over the years I have tried, and given up, on many exercise videos. But, I have been using yours regularly for about a month now and am really enjoying your work outs. Thank you so much!

  • Hi,
    Loving the workouts.
Would it be possible to incorporate a short warm up and cool down into any upcoming exercise programme?
It works better for me, rather than switching from one to another.
Keep the exercises coming, they’re great and I am really benefiting from them.
    Thank you.

    • Hi there! Funny you should say that! We just posted a new 40 minute all in one workout — warmup, 30 minute walk, and cooldown! https://bit.ly/3tpvMIN So happy to grant your wish! Thank you so much for exercising with us!

  • Thank you for your concern for us seniors! I love these exercises which i personally need. Again, thanks and God bless you both!

  • This particular workout is a favorite of mine. I love it. A perfect way to end my week. Thank you very much. You are such a blessing to me!

    • Sorry for the delay in replying! This one didn’t show up in my usual list of comments. Honored this your favorite! Always nice to hear from you. Thank you SO much! ❤️

  • I am SO Happy I found your exercises on YouTube! I go to the UNC Cancer Rehab exercise 3 mornings a week and needed exercise for the other 4 days. I’ve tried other programs before and they were either too easy or too hard. The 20 min is just perfect and I will do the warm-up prior to this next time. I’m looking forward to adding more time and more of your other exercise routines. I’m 76, still very active but need to drop some weight and move more. THANK YOU.

    • So sorry for this late reply. There was some glitch and I am only seeing your note now. We are so happy our workouts are just right for you. Keep up the great work! Thank you so much and see you soon!

  • SO glad I have discovered you. I am 89 years old and have done at least one of your three walking workouts every day. Love the banter between you and your mom. I walk AT LEAST 6,000 steps EVERY day. Have gone79 days without missing my 6,000+ steps, more often 7,000 or 8,000 steps a day. What I don’t do with you I do outside no matter what the weather.

    • Wow! Terrific! Mom loves having “kids” at 89 joining our workouts! Love ❤️ your “never quit” attitude! Keep it going and keep moving with us! (Sorry for the late reply! Comments from months ago popped up today! Grrr! 😠)

  • love this! i’m 24 and suffer with chronic pain issues and it can be difficult for me do most of the workouts on YouTube, but this entire channel is perfect for me to keep moving, on both bad and good days. Thanks so much!

  • Thank you so much for doing this! I’m on a weight loss journey, sometimes get fairly significant anxiety. This slower pace allows me to still move my body for 20 minutes without triggering my anxiety too much. Thank you!

  • So happy I came across your channel!! With my chronic pain and fibromyalgia, I’m very limited in exercises I’m able to do but your video didn’t cause more pain and made me feel accomplished since I’m able to complete it! LOVE THIS!!! ♥️

    • Thank you! Happy we can help! Great that you are exercising despite your limitations! You will feel better by doing so! Go at a pace that is comfortable for you to start and rest as you need it! Slow Mo is good and just as beneficial! Keep up the good work! You are doing great and keep moving with us too! • We can’t thank you any less for these videos. They are easy to do at home. I repeat the same one for two days and then move to a new one. After doing these exercises I feel more strength and energetic. ❤️

    • Thank you! Good work repeating the workouts! Your body loves ❤️ it and is letting you know with your increased strength and energy! Keep up the good work and keep moving with us! You are doing great! See you soon! ❤️

  • I love this! So happy I found it. I started it just 3 weeks ago. I am 64 years old and would rather walk in place during many days of bad cold weather in the Northeast. I love that it is not just 20 minutes of walking in place. such a variety with the 4 different sets (done 2x each) – the 20 minutes fly by! i started out with the 10 minute walking in place for several weeks. I love the mother and daughter team. I smile a lot during this due to their friendly voices. I do this every day before I leave for work – I didn’t think I could do it – no time, etc. but I found the time, now if there is an occasional day I can’t do it, I hate the feeling that I didn’t do it! THANK YOU!! If anyone is hesitant to try it don’t be. you will love it.

    • Thank you! So happy you enjoy the workouts! As a young 64 you are sure to be healthy and stronger in the later years because you are exercising now! Keep up the good work! It’s nice to know we can start your day working out together! Keep moving with us! See you tomorrow for another workout! ❤️

    • Thank you! Good to see you! Happy you enjoyed it! You are doing great exercising on a consistent schedule! Love ❤️your attitude to stay healthy and strong! Keep it going and keep moving with us! See you soon! ❤️

    • Thank you! Happy you enjoyed it! As a young 66yo it’s terrific that you are exercising to be healthy and strong now and for the years ahead! Keep it going and keep moving with us! See you soon! ❤️

  • I love these workouts! I found them a few months ago and I truly believe they will be a life saver. I am 71 years young and feel I am gaining strength and stamina to keep up with my grandkids. I set 7,000 steps as my daily goal, but l
ike to get more. I also appreciate the face that you incorporate strength, stretching and balance. I ordered the step and would like to see some more videos utilizing it. Thank you for what you do!

    • Thank you! Happy you enjoyed the workouts! It’s great that you are exercising to keep up with the grandkids! You will surprise them when you outrun them one day! 7000 steps is a terrific goal to do each day and a step workout will help you get to that number easily! We do plan other step workouts soon! Keep up your good work and keep moving with us! See you soon! ❤️

  • Thank you for your workouts! I am going through cancer treatment and used to be very active. My energy level is low and these workouts are perfect to keep me moving and try to maintain some strength.

    • Thank you! Happy we can help you during your recovery! Take it slow and go at a pace that is comfortable! We admire your inner strength to exercise now and in the long run, it is the best thing you can do for your heart and muscles to help you in your recovery! We are with you all of the way! Hope you feel stronger soon! See you soon! ❤️

  • Just love you ladies. Glad i found a exercise that works with my needs. Yesterday, I felt so good after warm up and 20 minute walk. I painted my door in my apartment and painted extra 4 doors. You mother and daughter rocks. This really helps me😅
